Heavy courier and air freight FAQs

Prices, timing, packing, what can and can't fly, and how booking works for businesses and private customers.

Pricing and payment

How much does it cost to courier heavy items between cities?

It depends on the weight and size of each piece, the number of pieces and the collection and delivery suburbs. We send one fixed price that covers collection, the flight and delivery. For heavy items it's often far less than a road courier: one road quote we were given for Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg was R6 800.

How is air freight charged per kg?

The price depends on the route, the weight and size of each piece, and the collection and delivery suburbs. Large, light items can cost more than their weight alone suggests, so send the measurements too. We reply with one fixed price that covers everything.

Do you offer credit or 30-day accounts?

No. Every shipment is paid upfront once you accept the quote. That keeps prices low and means no surprise invoices later.

Is there a minimum weight?

Yes, 35 kg per shipment. Lighter parcels are usually cheaper with a regular courier.

Sending a shipment

How do I book?

Request a quote with the route, weight, size and when it's ready. Pay the quote and we book the collection, the flight and the delivery.

Is it door to door or airport to airport?

Door to door. You never have to go to the airport. We handle the collection truck, the airline cargo booking and the delivery truck.

How long does it take?

The flights between the main cities take roughly one to two hours. Door to door, most shipments are delivered the next day. Routes without a direct flight on the day connect through Johannesburg. We confirm timing on every quote.

Which cities do you cover?

Johannesburg and Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha), in every direction.

How should I pack heavy items?

Use strong boxes or crates, wrap anything that can break, strap heavy pieces to a pallet where possible, and label every piece with the receiver's name and number.

Will I get updates?

Yes, at every handover: collection, lodging at the cargo terminal, landing and delivery.

What can and can't be sent

What can't go by air?

Dangerous goods such as lithium batteries, fuel, gas cylinders, aerosols and some chemicals need airline approval, and some can't fly at all. Tell us exactly what's in the shipment and we'll tell you whether it can fly or should go by road.

What if my item is too big for the plane?

Items have to fit through the aircraft's cargo door. Very large pieces such as couches, wardrobes or long machinery go better by road freight, which we can also quote.

Can private individuals use Uplift Freight?

Yes. We move heavy items for private people as well as businesses: boxes for a move, furniture pieces, appliances, gym equipment, bicycles and anything bought or sold online.
